To Market, to market. . .to buy pretty lingerie for you

There is nothing quite like lingerie market. The place is filled with so many delicate, exquisitely crafted items—silks, laces, embroideries.  Add to that a good number of models strutting around in very elaborate skivvies and you get a sense of things.

As I evaluate pieces, I bring many of you to mind, because I'm shopping for all you fantastic lingerie enthusiasts—the demure and the daring.

Meeting with the lingerie designers and seeing all the new styles is one of the best parts of having a lingerie shop. It's a tactile experience. Taking it all in is also completely overwhelming. Paring each month's buy down to the essence—the best pieces, the right price points, the best combinations—and picking the right mix of sizes and cuts is a challenge.

Once we have finally selected a perfect bra, there can be as many as four cut variations, four panty variations and color options to choose from. (Eyes begin to cross here). Amid the noise, I try find some styles and colors that will delight and excite you—as well as some beautiful basics that you will go back to again and again.

Spring & Summer Preview

A piece from our current bridal collection. A perfect easy gift.

This week, in time for Mom's Day, we are receiving pretty loungewear from Samantha Chang and Eberjey and some beautiful lingerie from Else, Only Hearts, and Lou. What else is coming for summer? June will bring two nude t-shirt bras and some floral surpises that will delight you. In July and August we will have the most robust and fetching REDS! (Insert fireworks!) And we're working on 2 new fuller bust lines that will go up to a G cup. 

The Historic East Village

One last thing that's been on mind over the past few months: The East Village neighborhood. I am constantly thankful to have a business in an area that makes it possible for us to run a business and also have a life. Many of us keep similar business hours down here, and they are hours that make it possible for us to hang up the closed sign at 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. and have dinner with our spouses and/or families. That means a lot. Thanks again for your business and your kindness.

This Saturday, September 27th, we'll be celebrating our one year anniversary from 10:30-5. We will have new lines to see, champagne to sip, and a wonderful romantic gift bag to give away. So stop in and say hello. And thank you for supporting us this first year. I truly enjoyed meeting every single one of you.


 

Art Meets Fashion

We are proud to be participating in the Des Moines Art Center's Art Meets Fashion Window Dressing Event on September 13th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Amour will be one of many East Village businesses that will feature fabulous window displays by local artists. Participating businesses will be open with refreshments and the artists will be present for questions and discussion. It's a great way to get out in the East Village, support the Des Moines Art Center and have a good time. You can purchase wristbands at the Des Moines Art Center, via the web, or at Amour the night of the event. The event costs $20.

Amour will be hosting the sculpture artist Jessica Teckemeyer. Through her animal sculptures, Jessica explores the complexity of human behavior as it's driven by instinct and cultural influences. Having talked to Jessica, I am quite excited about the piece she has planned for the window of Amour. It's perfect!

Do You Make This Stuff?

I have been asked more than a handful of times if I make all the beautiful items here at Amour. (I must look especially competent on those days!) This comment always surprises me because I know all the individual talents behind each of the lines we carry, and they are huge.

While we have lingerie from some large, established brands like Lou Paris, the heart of Amour is found with the smaller, independent designers—most of them women. We love to work with designers such as Fortnight, Between the Sheets, Eberjey, Clo Intimo, Fraulein Annie and Only Hearts (pictured right). I'm proud of that, and I believe you will feel the pride-of-work and care-for-detail in the items themselves. These designers have a passion for underpinnings and for how each piece looks and feels on the body.

Introducing Else Lingerie and Georgia J. Intimates

We are happy to introduce two new lines to Amour this summer. First to arrive is Else Lingerie (pictured left). I have long admired Else and am so excited to have their beautiful items included at Amour. Designed by Ela Onur, Else specializes in timeless, feminine silhouettes that both look and feel fantastic. Else Lingerie is made in their Istanbul studio.

Georgia J Intimates just arrived! Georgia J is an L.A.-based company with a fresh, youthful spirit. Her designs combine the softest lace with touches of floral. And each pretty piece comes with a little bit of inspiration. This one is among my favorites for the end of summer: "Just living is not enough. . .One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little something pretty to wear."
